October 20, 2021—The Republic of Turkey has promised to build an international school in South Sudanese capital, Juba.
This news comes after a meeting between the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Erdem Mutaf and South Sudan Minister of General Education and Instructions Awut Deng Achuil in Juba.
The Turkish government said the project will be implemented through Turkish Embassy in South Sudan.
Ambassador Erdem Mutaf said the schools will include both primary and secondary institutions.
According to the Ambassador, the plans to establish the institution will commence as soon as the government approve them to go ahead with the project.
“If we have a greenlight from South Sudan’s authorities within short time they will be able to start their operation”,Ambassador Mutaf told media after the meeting on Tuesday.
“The project will include both international and South Sudan curricula”, he added.
In her part, Awut Deng Achuil, South Sudan’s Minister of General Education said the plan will be presented to the Council of Minsters for ratification.
“The input of international school to South Sudan is key. So this is on the process for the approval of the council for us to operationalize it”, Education Minister Achuil said.
Last year, the Minister of Education Changson lew Chang signed a deal with Egyptian government that promised South Sudan to open the Alexandria branch in Tonj of Warap State. In 2017 South Sudan government also signed two educational corporations with aim to enhance the education in the country; however, it is not clear so far whether or not such deals will be honored.
