April 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – US President, Donald John Trump, on Monday extended the existing five-year old national emergency on South Sudan for another year, citing continuous threat being posed by South Sudan to the United States.
In April 2014, former United States President, Barrack Obama first declared the emergency against South Sudan just four months after the country descended into civil war.
Since then, the US national emergency has remained in place being renewed each year.
The Trump administration said the situation in South Sudan has been marked by activities that threaten the peace, security, or stability of South Sudan and the surrounding region and that’s why he is renewing the emergency to continue beyond April 3rd 2019.
“The situation in and in relation to South Sudan continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States. Ā For this reason, the national emergency declared on April 3, 2014, to deal with that threat must continue in effect beyond April 3, 2019,” partly read the order sent to the UnitedĀ States Congress.
“Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive OrderĀ 13664,” the order signed by Trump added.
