August 14th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Members of the Troika, the United States, Britain and Norway, have urged the South Sudanese parties who signed a peace deal in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to develop a realistic timeline for the implementation of the agreements on governance and security dossiers.

Early this month, South Sudan government, SPLM-IO led by the country’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon and other South Sudan armed and non armed opposition groups.

The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), and the SPLM-IO former detainees also signed the peace agreement despite an earlier promise that they will not sign the agreement.

In a statement issued Friday, the Troika countries urged South Sudanese parties who signed the governance deal in the Sudanese capital Khartoum early this month to develop a realistic timeline for the implementation of the deal.

“We call on the parties to develop clear and realistic governance and security timelines and plans for the transition period, and on the Intergovernmental Authority on Development member states and the AU to continue and intensify their involvement in the implementation phase of any agreement,” said the statement issued jointly by the Troika countries.

The statement further urged the IGAD mediation to ensure the participation of the many stakeholders in the South Sudan peace process including the participation of ethnic minorities across South Sudan.

“We remain steadfast that the best hope for sustainable peace is a process inclusive of ordinary men and women, civil society, religious leaders, ethnic minorities, and other excluded groups. We urge mediators to ensure the open and free participation of these groups and other participants in the negotiations, to ensure their interests are fully protected,” said further the statement.
