September 13th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The members of the Troika, the United Kingdom, Norway and the United States, said on Wednesday that they welcome the signing of South Sudan’s revitalized peace agreement signed on Wednesday by South Sudan President, Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

“we the members of the Troika (the United Kingdom, United States, and Norway) welcome the commitment of the region to come together to address common peace and security priorities tor the benefit of its citizens. We must seize this broader regional momentum to secure peace for the people of South Sudan The Troika acknowledges the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan and recognises the role IGAD played in this process,” the Troika countries said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.

The statement further said they are hoping for the continuation of negotiations to bring together groups who have not been convinced by the region to sign the agreement along with other parties.

“We hope discussions will remain open to those who are not yet convinced of the sustainability of this agreement,” they said adding that “We remain concemed about the parties level of commitment to this agreement, and to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement signed in Addis Ababa in December.”

The statement said they have Wau, in Western Bhar Al-Ghazal as example for the violation of agreements including the one in June which was meant to permanently ceasefire in the country.

“In Wau, for example, military offensives have been undertaken since the signing of the most recent ceasetire. The ceasefire monitoring teams were denied timely access to assess the impact of this most recent violence, but it is certain that it has resulted in civilian deaths,” they said.
