April 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A top military commander of the opposition Federal Democratic Party and Army (FDP/A) led by Gabriel Changson Lew has resigned from the armed opposition group citing what he said is an ignorance – by Changson – of the military hierarchy of the group, the South Sudan News Now reported.
In a direct letter of resignation to Changson and quoted by the South Sudan News Now, Gen. Koang, an Anyanya war veteran, accused Changson of carrying out military activities without his prior knowledge despite being the group’s commander in chief, something he says violates the military running of the movement.
“I am commander in Chief but you prepare your army without my advise….you transfer military importance to party [without my consent],” he said.
In a separate statement, Deng Vanang, a former spokesman for Changson’s group confirmed that he defected with Gen. Koang and that the defecting members will issue a press statement soon to unveil a new name for an upcoming group.
“While the media and general public go through this eye opening public declaration of intent, in a matter of next few days the new group’s members will organize a conference,” Deng said in the statement extended to the Nyamilepedia.
