‘Three police Officers and a Community chief killed on Juba – Nimule Highway’ police says

Oct 3, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —- Police Spokesperson, Daniel Justin, says the unidentified gunmen shot three policemen dead and tried to hijack a police car on Juba-Nimule road.

“Three police officers and a community chief were killed in an attack at a post in Nyolo along the Juba-Nimule highway on Sunday,” Police said.

The Police spokesman explains that they shot dead three of them and they ran, other members of the unit responded and chased the attackers.

The gunmen ran to Nelo village, where they shot the chief dead, between Aru Junction and Obama village.

“The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Juba teaching Hospital; there is normal traffic on the road despite the incident. The Juba-Nimule highway has been experiencing insecurity in recent months, with cars being attacked by unknown gunmen,” Brig. Justine said.

In a related story, at least three passengers were killed and three others injured when a Commercial vehicle felt into an ambushed along Torit – Magwi road by group of armed men on Friday at 4pm local time.

An eyewitness told Nyamilepedia Press over phone, who declined of his name not to be published, that they felt into an ambushed on Torit – Magwi road at Choloro area about 10KM from Torit Town on Friday, Sept 30 at 4pm.

“Three businesswomen and one businessman killed at spot, other three injuries and all our goods, he said.” An eyewitness says the group of armed men were about two hundred in number and added that he cannot identify them or their affiliation.

The three injured people are in Torit referral Hospital for medication and the three dead bodies were identified by the relatives which are well-known to Nyamilepedia journalist on the ground, however, the names of the victims are withheld to avoid community incitement against another community until the situation is restored.

Imatong Police was unable to be reached by Nyamilepedia press after the incident took place.

When Nyamilepedia correspondent reached local authorities of the Choloro, they said the Imatong Governor and his convoy have left for greater Magwi and Pageri to open and lay foundation for the three newly created counties of ‘Ayaci, Magwi and Pageri’.

Attempts to reach SPLA-IO spokesman on the ground to comment on the security issues in these areas were not returned.
