August 1, 2019(Nyamilepedia) — The SPLM-IO’s Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Amb. Reat Nhial Tuany, has strongly condemned the ongoing military confrontation, unfolding between the SPLA-IO forces and civilian administration and urged the SPLM leadership to de-escalate the tension before it gets out of control.
“I am deeply disturbed by the unfortunate event which took place on 7/31/2019 between the SPLM IO Military and the Civil Administration in Maiwut County.
The violence confrontations could have been avoided if the military leadership, Office of the Governor of Adar State and county officials cooperated to de-escalate the tense situation instead of resorting to the use of force,” said Amb.Reat Nhial.
He urged the office of the Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (IO), to probe into this incident and ensure that the SPLA-IO forces remain in their respective barracks.
“In my capacity as an SPLM IO official, I condemn in the strongest term possible this violence attacks on the civilians. I am appealing directly to the Office of the Chairman and C- in-C Dr. Riek Machar to investigate the incident, make sure that the military stay in their barracks and avoid contact with civilians until a meeting is convened,” he stated.
He pointed out that the same community targeted by the SPLA forces was the first to resist attacks by pro-government forces after launching attacks in Maiwut in July 2017.
“It is worth mentioning that, the Community of Gajaak were the first victims when the regime puppet Governor Bol Ruach ROM invades the area in mid 2017. There is no point whatsoever for the military to take such a reckless position to attack the civilians” he said.
