July 19, 2005(Nymilepedia) – South Sudan’s current Vice President, James Wani Igga, has lashed out at the country’s population, especially those he said were calling on the government to provide food to the country’s hungry population, urging them to go and dig the land and cultivate their own food.

Wani said the government has no money to feed the hungry population.

The controversial Vice President was speaking as a guest of honour at an event organized by South Sudan Muslims on occasion to mark the Eid El Ramadan.

The VP said the government he is serving cannot be blamed for the hunger and starvation facing the country, saying the people are the ones to blame due to their lack of participation in agriculture to produce food for themselves.

Wani lashed out at the cattle keeping community, especially from Bahr El Ghazal region, for damaging farm lands wherever they move, describing them as a “lazy community” despite having opportunities and having millions of cattle, but are not benefiting from it economically meanwhile complaining about the government for their lack of food.

“Stop laziness and work harder to produce your own food,” said the VP Wani while speaking at the Ramadan occasion.

The Vice President went on to say he was ashamed that the country was importing food from outside including things like meat and fruits which could be easily produced locally.

Around 4.6 million people in South Sudan are facing starvation according to the World Food Program.

“South Sudanese should be ashamed of being fed by foreigners” The VP said while addressing the gathering in the capital, Juba.

Mr. Igga, who last week, said he was not ready to give up his position of Vice President for the sake of peace but was instead aiming to go higher to a top position concluded by saying the government of Salva Kiir had no money to feed the country’s hungry population.

If there is hunger and starvation to the population of South Sudan, its because not population laziness. Mr. Vice President should understand his government failed people of South Sudan. Reasons. 1. People’s farms and garden became palatable for his boss heads of cattle. 2. Insecurity of the country is responsible for hunger and starvation under his government. 3. Corruption.4. 3.5 millions and 3.millions population who depends on meat and milk previously and now eats food produced by 3.5million remaining country population of agrarians under his governgovernment to blame not laziness. 5. Where is mr Vice president farm located to blame hunger and starvation on citizen. To sum up my commend I think Mr. President is not himself. He is not free in his government. He protects instutution interest without pinpointing their institution mistakes just to maintain constitution post. Mr. Vice president we know you as capablr person but you are serving amidst bad cohort and you have to implement their bad program without question. Remain quiete not destroy your relationship with citizen as a person just becase of your incorrigible and selfserving govetnt which is leading our country no where. Its sad indeed. O God come to our rescue

Oh No!!!! James Wani Igga is committing political sucide. The people will only work to realize the vision of a government. If the government has no vision the people they governor will die of hunger. James Wani Igga, tell us what is your vision to develop agriculture in South Sudan and make it food sufficient country. Do not blame the people, blame yourself and your government that has lost direction.

Watch out Mr. Hyena teeth and John Garang’s pseudonym. It is very clear that Wani Igga is now afraid of losing the Vice presidency.

Agamut

The truth is hurting but it is also relieving. If these lazy cattle keepers were able to provide for their own food, they would not be rushing to Equatoria together with their cows for food and safety, rather they would be the ones feeding the rest of the South and beyond. Many young jienges are comfortable sitting idly under Juba trees and shop verandas leaving their women to do the food production. Many are used to NGO food handouts. Good so Mr. Wani Igga.

How can a leader like wani Igga talk irresponsible??. Do you think the people went to the camps in Juba and other towns because they loved to do so? Is it not due to your senseless war that forced them to be beggars and turned theiir men to be hopeless? Please, Wani, I thought you were a visionary leader but I am wrong. Before you could say that the people should go to the village and cultivate, tell the government in which you are part of to silence the guns, stop corruption, disarm the bandits, take us from camps back to our homes, then give us one year period. We shall prove you wrong. We are not lazy people, it is you leaders who have turned us into beggars and disgraceful and made us disable people. Please, next time, you should think twice before talking irresponsibly.
