“Telar was a nationalist and a true liberator” ~ Dr. Machar

Dec 29, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Sending a message of condolences, South Sudan’s First Vice President, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the armed opposition, SPLM/A-IO, remembers late South Sudan ambassador to Russia, who passed away on December 27th, 2020, as a nationalist and a liberator.

According to Dr. Machar, the SPLM/A-IO received with great sorrow the sad news of the sudden and untimely demise of Amb. Telar Ring Takping Deng in Juba on Sunday 27th December 2020.

“He was a nationalist and a true liberator. The Movement and the people of South Sudan have lost a great man.” Dr. Machar said.

The First Vice President said late Telar will be remembered for his contributions to liberation struggle, and in the establishment of South Sudan as independent nation.

“He will be remembered for his contributions to liberation struggle, and in the establishment of South Sudan as independent nation”, adding  that “he vehemently fought for justice, democracy and unity of all people of South Sudan”.

At the time of his death, Amb. Telar just joined the SPLM in Opposition and was appointed a MP to the national assembly that is now being formed.

“Amb. Telar Deng was nominated by SPLM/A(IO) as a member of the Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly(RTNLA)” Machar added.

Machar conveys his condolences to relatives, friends and the people of South Sudan.

“On behalf of SPLM/A(IO) and on my own behalf, I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the family , relatives, friends and the entire people of South Sudan for the loss of Amb. Telar Deng. He will be dearly missed by all” Dr. Machar writes.

Amb. Telar defected to Dr. Machar led SPLM/A-Nasir in 1991 and also defected to Machar led SPLM/A-IO earlier this year, 2020. 

Late amb. Telar was from Atout-Dinka of Yirol, Lakes State.

He has served in several positions in Salva Kiir’s government that include presidential advisor on legal affairs and the first South Sudan ambassador to Moscow, Russia.
