July 4th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Businesses communities from Sudan and South Sudan have had discussions to improve economic activities between the two countries since 2012 following the Heglig crisis which led to a war between the two countries.

The Secretary General of the Sudanese Chamber of Commerce, Bakri Yousef Omar, met today at his office with his South Sudanese counterpart Simon Deng and discussed ways to reactivate the business activities between the two countries.

Yousef Omar praised the efforts of the private sector and businessmen in the South in the various negotiating tracks, pointing out that achieving stability in the South contributes greatly to the strong return of economic relations between the two countries, noting the advanced step and the generous initiative of the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omar Al-Bashir, and his directives to open borders and crossings with the South To promote efforts to facilitate negotiations.

He said that the move contributes to the resumption of trade in goods and services in light of the presence of many factors supporting the infrastructure such as river, land, air and communications lines, which creates wider opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Chamber of Commerce of South Sudan said that he gave a positive message to the economic situation in the South through the significant decline in the exchange rate of the South Sudanese pound in Juba and the decline in the prices of goods and services.

He also pointed out that reaching a final agreement serves the two countries’ economic interests.

He stressed that the South Sudan represents a huge market for Sudanese commodities and products, in light of the availability of many raw materials in the South, which are needed by the Sudanese market, such as timber, agricultural commodities and oil materials, once again calling on the Union and the Sudanese private sector to visit Juba.

He praised the Sudanese decision to open border crossings to push economic and trade cooperation to new heights of cooperation.
