Taban’s forces accuse Machar’s SPLA-IO of planning offensive in northern Upper Nile

June 3rd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Forces loyal to South Sudan’s first vice president Taban Deng Gai has accussed the main armed opposition forces under the leadership of the country’s former first vice president Riek Machar of planning to attack areas in the north of the defunct Upper Nile State.

In a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia on Sunday, the spokesman of first vice president’s forces said troops commanded by Johnson Olony, a rebel general loyal to former first vice president turned rebel leader Riek Machar, are preparing to attack government positions in Kaka and Aburoc in norther Upper Nile state.
“Through credible sources within Riek Machar camp, we were informed that Gen. Johnson Olony is preparing to attack Kaka and Aburoc in Northern Upper Nile,” Gatluak said.
He said, based on “credible sources” Gen. Olony is moving to attack the government areas with a force of approximately 16 vehicles among other military equipments bu said the convoy stucked in mud.
“General Olony is moving with 16 technical vehicles and 4 APCs. The force  is estimated to be around 800 armed men planning to launch a big offensive (military operation),” he said in the statement.
He accused prominent opposition commander loyal to Machar Gen. Dhiling Keah of orchestrating the said attack.
“The operation was planned by SPLA IO forces under control of  Gen. Dhilling Keah, Chief of military  intelligence and Gen. Duop  Lam, Deputy Chief of Staff of SPLA IO,” he allegged.
He urged IGAD and the CTSAMM to take note and document the violations against ceasefire he said was committed by the SPLM-IO.
“CTSAMM and IGAD should take note of this serious  development and clear violation of COH. The government will continue to act in self defense and protect citizens and their properties,” he said.
