November 23rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai is reportedly disappointed about a decision by President Salva Kiir Mayardit to appoint his critic General Gathoth Gatkuoth as Latjor state governor.
On Wednesday, Kiir appointed Gatkuoth in a decree read out on the state-ran South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) to replace Elijah Liech Bany as the Latjor state governor.
The former rebel commander who have criticized Taban in the past for what he said were negative decisions on the dissolution of the SPLM-IO faction led by Taban was sworn into office on Friday at J1.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Saturday from Juba, a senior government official attached to Taban said the FVP was disappointed by the decision of President Salva Kiir Mayardit to appoint Gatkuoth as Latjor state governor saying it undermine his authority as FVP.
“The first vice-president is disappointed by the decision by the president of the republic to appoint Gathoth as the Latjor state governor,” the official said from Juba on condition of anonymity.
“He believes – and I too – that the decision undermine the first vice-president because this is someone who have some issues with him and Gathoth don’t listen,” he added.
