June 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai has reportedly agreed to vacate the position for Machar in case the President appoints the later to the position he held for almost two years since the collapse of the Transitional government of national unity in July 2016.

According to a government official, Kiir was able to convince Taban that the continuation of war is not in the interest of the people of South Sudan nor in the interest of the government itself and its external allies.

“President Kiir told the FVP that the war is not in the interest of the people [of South Sudan] nor in the interest of the government and the allies in the regional and the international arena,” the source said under the cover of anonymity.

The same source said Taban accepted while the President promised him to be offered another position in the government and a higher position in the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).

“Taban Deng has accepted the fact and the obvious told him by the president that the war doesn’t benefit the country nor the regional and international allies. He has been promised that the president in appreciation of the significant role he played during the last two years, he will be appointed to another position and will be promoted to a higher position in the party,” the source added.

President Kiir on Thursday meet his two deputies at the Presidential Palace to brief them on the progress met in Khartoum.
