July 31st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudan’s ruling military Junta has ordered all state governors to suspend studies in all schools amid claims of security concerns following the killing of five students in Sudan’s Northern Kordofan state on Monday.

On Monday, members of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia allegedly shot dead five high school students who were taking part in a street protest aimed against fuel and bread shortages in al-Obeid, the capital of Northern Kordofan state.

Following the killings, authorities at the Presidency in Khartoum ordered all schools nationwide to suspend – indefinitely – classes later on Tuesday evening.

Orders have been given to governors of all states to shut kindergartens, primary, and high schools from tomorrow (Wednesday) until further notice,” the official SUNA news agency said quoting an order from the country’s military rulers.

For its part, the United Nations (UN) has called for an independent investigation into the killings urging authorities in Sudan to hold all perpetrators of the “violence against children accountable.”

Meanwhile, General Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, the head of the ruling military council, has condemned the killings saying what had happened in the south-eastern region is unacceptable crimes that needs an immediate accountability.

What happened in al-Obeid is sad. Killing peaceful civilians is an unacceptable crime that needs immediate accountability,” General Al-Burhan said according to the state-own Sudan TV.
