September 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudan’s new Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok and his accompanying delegation are expected to arrive in Juba on Thursday in a bid to reach peace with several rebel groups.
Since Monday, members of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council led by General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo who is also called Hemeti have been negotiating a settlement with rebel Sudan Revolutionary Front (RSF) representatives under the auspices of President Salva Kiir.
“He will be accompanied by a delegation including the ministers of interior, foreign affairs, energy and mining, and commerce and industry,” Sudanese information minister Faisal Mohamed Saleh told reporters after the first cabinet in Khartoum Tuesday.
This will be the first time that the new Sudanese Prime Minister, Hamdok, will be making a foreign trip since he came into to power after the ouster of former Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
Putting an end to violence between the Sudanese government and various rebel groups is one of the priorities promised to be undertaken by the Sudanese ruling Sovereignty Council’s government.
On Tuesday, the Sudanese unity government announced that it was about to reach an agreement with the armed opposition groups currently at the peace talks in the capital, Juba.
“The two parties to Juba talks have agreed on most of the outstanding issues between them,” said the council in a press statement.
Thousands of people have been killed and millions uprooted during decades of conflict in the Sudan, including violence in the western Darfur region, where rebel groups have been waging war against the regime of former Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
