Khartoum, Sudan
October 27, 2021—The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the dissolved Sudanese government, Mariam Sadiq El-Maadi fears that the security operatives may arrest her at any time.
The former minister is among the deposed cabinet who support the civilian-led government in Sudan but their term was short-lived.
In a statement to Aljezeera, Ms. Mahadi announced that her brother, who is being held being bars by security forces in the country, makes her believes that she might also be apprehended at any time.
” My brother, the Deputy head of the Umma Party, has been arrested, and I am waiting for my arrest at any moment”, Mariam told Aljezeera.
Mariam Sadiq El-Maadi was the Foreign Minister of the Sudanese Transitional government following the Juba Peace Agreement signed on 3rd of October 2020.
She inherited the party leadership of the National Umma Party in 2020 shortly after the death of her late Father Imam Sadiq El-Maadi who was the Sudan’s democratic leader during the 1980s until he was ousted from power through military coup led by Omer al-Bashir.
In her capacity as the Chairperson of the Umma Party, Mariam condemns the military seizure of power and demands an immediate release of the detained politicians.
