March 9th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudanese Security and Defense Council said on Monday, that an emergency meeting would be held after a failed attempt to assassinate Prime Minister Abdallah Hamduk in the capital Khartoum this morning.
This morning, a car bomb below the Kober bridge, northeast of the capital, exploded while the prime minister’s motorcade was passing. No body was hurt in what in believed to be an assassination attempt.
“The prime minister is in a safe place after he was subjected to an assassination attempt in Khartoum,” Ali Bakhit, director of the Hamdouk office.
A meeting set for Hamdok with his economic ministerial team at the headquaters of the council of ministers was adjourned and Hamdok was then moved to a “safer place.”
Senior member of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Muhammad al-Faki Suleiman said during a press conference in Khartoum following the incident that the Security and Defense Council will hold a meeting at the presidential palace this afternoon to discuss the assassination plot.
The Council is mandated with preparing defense and security policies while taking and issuing decisions binding on all state agencies regarding the security and unity of Sudan.
The council, which was formed last October, is chaired by the President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
It includes all members of the Transitional Sovereign Council, in addition to the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Ministers of Defense, Interior and Foreign Affairs, Justice and the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.
