November 22nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the Sudan Sovereignty Council General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has said that former Sudanese president Omar Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir won’t be handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Last week, a senior member of the ruling coalition, Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC), said the protest group and the Sovereignty Council agreed to hand over al-Bashir to the ICC once his current domestic trial is ended.

Al-Bashir is expected to be indicted next month over charges that include but not limited to possession of foreign currency illegally and money laundering.

Speaking during an interview with the Qatari-based Al Jazeera TV, al-Burhan said the Sudanese authorities won’t hand over al-Bashir or any other Sudanese to the international criminal court saying they – in the government – have confidence and trust in the Sudanese justice system.

“Al-Bashir or any other Sudanese won’t be handed over to the ICC [International Criminal Court] because we have trust and confidence in the Sudanese justice system,” al-Burhan said.

He denied reports that there are still members of militia group belonging to the previous government under al-Bashir.

“There are no militias belonging to the former regime outside the legal frameworks of the Sudanese military,” al-Burhan said.

Al-Burhan added that the Sudanese authorities will release any detainee from the previous regime who would be acquitted of all the charges against him by the Sudanese judiciary.

“Any other detainee from the previous regime who would be acquitted of all the charges against him by the judiciary will be released,” he said.

The top army general further said Sudan will not restore relations with Iran and that Sudanese forces fighting as part of the Arab coalition against Yemeni militia group, Houthi, won’t be recalled until the goal of the Arab coalition is achieved.

“We will not – at the time – restore relations with Iran and the Sudanese forces in Yemen will remain there until the Arab coalition achieve its goals,” al-Burhan said reiterating claim that the disputed region of Halayeb and Shalatin are Sudanese territories.

He said “The dissolution of the National Congress Party (NCP) will be left to the judiciary and the justice agencies.”
