Khartoum, Sudan
January 14, 2022—A Police officer and one protester were killed yesterday during another day of protests organized by civilians against military regime in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
This comes just few days after the opening of a dialogue between the military and civilian leaders at the expense of the United Nations.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Sudanese police said a brigadier-general was stabbed to death by a protester on Thursday in the capital Khartoum and in return security forces fired guns and teargas at peaceful demonstrators trying to march on the state house.
In the adjacent city of Bahri, medics said one peaceful protester had been killed by a gunshot to the stomach.
“Dozens of protesters were being treated for gunshot wounds and other injuries in Khartoum and neighbouring cities”, the medics said in a statement.
“Crimes are being committed against our revolutionary people,” said the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, a think tank group aligned with the protest movement.
Asked about accuracy of the doctors’ statement, police authorities said more than 20 police officers had been wounded by the protesters.
Medics said at least more than 60 protesters have been killed in Sudan since the military took over, mainly as a result of live bullets and tear gas from security forces.
Military leaders say their military action of usurping the power has saved Sudan from chaos and saying they will protect people’s right to peaceful protest.
Last two weeks, Abdallah Hamdok resigned his position as country’s top civilian leader saying his efforts to push the country to a peaceful transition has been thwarted by military component.
