August 30, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Reports from South Sudan’s First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, confirm that the Sudanese parties will sign a peace agreement very soon.
According to Dr. Machar’s Press Secretary, James Gatdet Dak, the First Vice President met Sudan’s Prime Minister, Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, today in the capital, Juba, to discuss peace in the two countries.
“The First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar, and the visiting Sudanese Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, discussed peace in both South Sudan and Sudan.” Said Machar’s press secretary, James Gatdet.
Gatdet further confirmed that the Sudanese parties will sign the long awaited peace deal tomorrow, August 31, 2020 in South Sudan.
“They discussed the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan, as well as the expected signing on Monday, 31st August, in Juba, of a peace agreement between the Sudanese government and opposition groups from Darfur, Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile regions in Sudan.” James Gatdet writes on the First Vice President page.
The Sudanese opposition parties have been in negotiation with the new regime since it took power from Al-Bashir in April 2019.
Many parties from Southern Kordofan, Blue Nile and Darfur that were initially involved in brutal guerrilla warfare with the former government and political leaders who returned from exile are currently depending on this South Sudan’s mediated peace deal to work with the new government.
The two Sudans are mediating peace for one another but different stakeholders have different preconditions and that have caused many delays.
