August 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A Sudanese opposition official from the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) which signed a deal with the Transitional Military Council (TMC) to form a unity government on Saturday has hinted on the possibility of reunification with South Sudan which broke away from the north-east African nation eight years ago.
South Sudanese voted in a 2011 referendum to chose secession from Sudan and form a new country. It was the result of a 2005 peace agreement known as Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) which ended one of the longest African civil wars.
Mohamed Nagy Alasam, a opposition figure who addressed regional leaders including president Salva Kiir Mayardiit during the signing ceremony for the signing of transitional deal between the ruling military junta and protest organizers, said South Sudan separation was harsh but possible.
“We greet you with longing and love, and our pleasure is only with you, you are part of us and we are part of you. We are only reunited with you (…) and we will strive to get back as we agree,” Alasam said
“Our separation was harsh, but reunification is possible. You are our half sweet,” he stressed.
