November 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudanese army has kidnapped around 20 South Sudan officials in the country’s Northern Upper Nile state, sources with knowledge told the Nyamilepedia on Saturday.
Eighteen tax officials were arrested while going to collect taxes in a Sesame crop harvest near Sudanese border. The kidnapped officials are employees of the state revenue authority.
“They were going to collect taxes and then they were arrested by members of the Sudanese army,” a state official told the Nyamilepedia on condition of anonymity on Saturday.
The official said there are information that the officials are being held in a Sudanese military base near Sennar but could not state if there was any negotiation ongoing to secure their release.
“We have some information that they are in Sennar in a military base,” the official said.
In August, Sudanese farmers complained of harassment from South Sudanese army calling on the government in Khartoum to address the issue.
