August 26, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudanese government has said that it is working with South Sudan parties to the revitalized peace agreement to make sure that the establishment of the country’s professional unified army is completed before conduct of elections which is due in exactly three years from now.

Sudanese defense minister Yassen Ibrahim met Monday with his South Sudanese counterparts Angelina Teny in Juba and discussed the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement which ended a deadly civil war in February this year.

In remarks following the meeting, the Sudanese defense minister said his government was working hand in hand with the counterpart in South Sudan and would ensure that the unified national army which he said would be crucial for a stable country must be in place before conduct of election at the end of the transitional period.

“We have discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement. The Sudanese government is for the timely formation of the unified armed forces in our sisterly state of South Sudan,” the top Sudanese army general said.

“That is why the government of Sudan is working hand in hand with the government of South Sudan to make sure that such provision of the revitalized peace agreement take place on time before elections,” he added.

For her part, South Sudan’s defense minister Angelina Teny said the meeting between them discussed the peace process and said the country’s northern neighbor has pledged to help in the training of the unified forces.

“Also, the Sudanese Minister of Defence affirmed his readiness to support us in the field of training and implementation of peace agreements,” she said.
