January 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The governments of Sudan and Uganda have agreed to supervise a planned training of a unified force drawn from the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO), senior opposition official told the Nyamilepedia on Monday.
South Sudan’s parties to the Joint Defense Board (JDB) agreed last week to launch a pilot project to train 2600 unified force which shall be divided 50/50 between the government and the opposition. The training will be conducted in Yei River state.
Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Sunday from the Sudanese capital Khartoum, a senior aide to prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny said the government of Sudan and that of Uganda have expressed their readiness to supervise the training of this force.
“I can tell you that the government of the Republic of Sudan and the government of the Republic of Uganda have expressed their happiness about the step the JDB took to decide to train a unified force,” the source which decline to mention his name told the Nyamilepedia.
“That is why they (Sudan and Uganda) have expressed their readiness to help us in this training. They have told us that they will take the supervisory role in the process and will provide use with the necessary skills needed in this process,” the source added.
