The government of Sudan and a coalition of armed oppositions under the banner of the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (RSF) signed a landmark peace deal this afternoon in Juba, South Sudan; however, these two oppositions which comprized of break away factions from Darfur’s SLM rebel movement and Nuba Mountains’ SPLM-North refused to join the peace process claiming that the revolution has been hijacked by wrong elements.

The groups have previously called on the transitional government in Khartoum to recall their second most senior, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, generally referred to as Hemetti, from the peace process for his previous connection to the Janjaweed from the Rizeigat tribe in Darfur.

Hemetti was installed as the Deputy head of the Transitional Military Council following the 2019 Sudanese coup d’état and since then he has been a main component of the peace process.
