June 8, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan, the world’s newest country is the most dangerous place on the planned to live or travel in during the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, a study has said.
The study by Deep Knowledge Group the study cited South Sudan’s poor health infrastructure and its poor sanitation level.
“Its overall healthcare infrastructure and efficiency, as well as sanitation levels, are markedly lower, and generally has a much lower capacity to deal with future increases in COVID-19 infection spread than other regions,” the report noted.
The report warned the South Sudan government against “putting economic recovery above public health and safety.”
“[Some] regions that do not proactively build bridges across government departments and across the private and public sector to strengthen surplus healthcare resources against the threat of future outbreaks consistently score lower than one would expect considering their raw resources, capacity and potential to maintain and optimize regional safety amid the current pandemic,” it said.
South Sudan in recent months has seen rise in the coronavirus cases with senior government including three vice presidents testing positive for the deadly virus.
Other senior army and government officials have as well died from the virus.
South Sudan as of Sunday has over 1600 confirmed cases of the virus with a total 19 fatalities and 15 recoveries.
