August 26th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudan’s Sovereignty Council has declared a state of emergency and dismissed the governor in the country’s Red Sea state amid deadly tribal fighting.
Since last week, fighting has been raging on inside Red Sea state capital Port Sudan between the Nuba and the Beni Amer killing around 20 people and wounding around 40 others according to local health officials.
Security forces were as results dispatched to the area from the Sudanese capital Khartoum to contain the situation.
There had been reports that the security forces in Port Sudan were supporting Beni Amer against the Nuba.
In a statement Sunday, the Sovereignty Council spokesman, al-Taher Abu-Hajja, said that the Council decided to “relieve the Governor in charge and to appoint another one who will be tasked with putting an end to the insecurity and tribal violence and the imposition of the rule of law.”
The head of the security in the area has also been dismissed.
