Sudan arrests army chief, ex-vice president over coup plot

July 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudan’s ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) has arrested the country’s ex-vice president and the army chief over a new plot to take over government, the junta announced on Wednesday.

Ex-First Vice President,  Bakri Hassan Saleh, along with General Hashim Abdel Muttalib who was appointed chief of staff just days after president Bashir’s ouster in April were arrested on Wednesday evening according to the state-owned sudan News Agency (SUNA).

Several military and police officers along with politicians including ex-foreign minister Ali Karti were also arrested.
