Oct 12, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudanese authorities have amended the constitution to incorporate the peace agreement that was signed recently by the stakeholders in the South Sudanese capital, Juba.
Briefing the delegations of the peace signatory groups, the Minister of Justice, Hon. Nasredeen Abdulbari, confirmed that his ministry has finished the draft that incorporate the peace deal into the constitution.
“The Ministry of Justice has drafted an amended version of the constitutional document after including the Juba agreement for peace in Sudan,” said Nasredeen Abdulbari the Sudanese Minister of Justice.
The Minister further reiterated that in case conflicts arise between the constitution and the new peace agreement, Nasredeen told the delegates and the media that the new peace agreement rules over the constitution.
According to the peace agreement implementation matrix, this amendment was to be completed within ten days from the DD day which is tomorrow, October 13, 2020.
Hon. Abdulbari and other senior officials that include advanced delegations from the armed oppositions discussed the harmonization of the constitution in line with the new agreement.
The Minister of Justice pledges that the Transitional Government “is now moving to achieve the second pillar of the revolution’s slogans, which is achieving peace.”
According to Yasir Arman, the head of the armed opposition delegation, his advanced team will study the draft constitution text and present their observations to the ministry in the shortest time possible.
Speaking on Sunday, Arman also confirmed that the armed opposition groups leadership will start arriving in the capital, Khartoum from November 3rd, 2020.
Responding through Twitter on Sunday, the leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Minawi, said the advanced team must study the draft carefully and ensure they remove any article that contradicts the peace agreement.
“Therefore, those in charge of the (harmonization process) from the parties to the agreement must focus on eliminating provisions that contradict the agreement, such as nominations that the parties make in the name of Forces for Freedom and Change,” Minni Minawi said.
The Sudanese leaders comprising of the Civilian-led Transitional Government, the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), Sudan Liberation Movement-Minni Minawi and Sudanese Alliance signed the groundbreaking peace deal on October 3, 2020 in the South Sudanese capital, Juba.
The government continue to pursue the holdout oppositions of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North/Abdelaziz al-Hilu and the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid Al Nur to join the peace process, and the parties are expected to resume talks from Wednesday, October 14, 2020 in Juba, South Sudan.
