On 20th of August 2021, the Chairman and commander-in-chief of SSPM/A Gen. Stephen Buay issued a statement appointing his son Sunday Buay Rolnyang as National Director for Legal Affairs in South Sudan People’s Movement.

In response to commentators who viewed the appointment as nepotism, this afternoon the movement Spokesperson , Peter Malieth Malek has justified that the decision of appointment has nothing to do with relationship between chairman and his son.

According to the newly appointed spokesman, Peter Malieth Malek, all National Executive Committee (NEC) of the SSPM agreed on Sunday Buay’s appointment to hold that position.

” Sunday is actually a biological son to the Chairman and this decision has nothing to do with family affairs since it was not made by his father but a recommendation from all members of SSPM/A National Executive Council (NEC). Cde Sunday Buay wasn’t appointed because he is a son to the SSPM/A Chairman but because he possess what it takes to hold the very position”, Peter Malieth said.

Malieth reiterated that Sunday Buay Rolnyang has served in different capacities such as having worked under the current South Sudan’s Deputy speaker for Council of States Gen. Bapiny Manytuil Wejang who doubles as the Chairman of SSLM until he shifted his allegiance to SSPM/A under his father.

“He worked with the current deputy Speaker for Council of States Rt. Hon Gen Bapiny Manytuil Wejang who is the SSOA Security Coordinator and Chairman and Commander in Chief of South Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SSLM/A) until he joined the mighty SSPM/A under the competent and able C-in-C Gen. Stephen Buay Rolnyang”,he added.

According to senior opposition spokesman, SSPM/A finds it weird for people to complain about Sunday’s appointment given that he has both work experience and academic qualifications required for the position he is appointed to serve.
