Unity State, South Sudan
July 29,2022 — The governor of South Sudan’s Unity State, Dr.Joseph Nguen Manytuil Wejang, has ordered the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) in Mankien of Mayom County to hunt Gen. Stephen Buay and his forces and must capture him dead or alive.
This comes after a deadly fighting starting with an overnight attack in Mayom last week where forces of South Sudan People’s Movement/Army (SSPM/A) assassinated the county commissioner Maj. Gen. Chuol Gatluak Manimeh who doubles as the Chairperson of the SPLM-IG in Mayom.
Addressing thousands of SSPDF soldiers and armed civilians in Mankien on Wednesday, Manytuil said the ongoing security fragility in Mayom has worried many people including the leadership in Juba and there is an immediate need for action to response to this situation.
“Many people in Juba including our leaders are looking up to us to find an immediate solution to this issue. This part of Unity State has largely been peaceful even when the conflict was ongoing,” Manytuil wearing military fatigues said.
“So, I am ordering you that we must get the problem to book. We all know who the problem is and I want you to bring him dead or alive to the government in the shortest possible time because you will have your guns soon and the remaining will be your part in enforcing the law,” he added.
The governor further conveyed the condolence of President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the transitional government in Juba to the people of Mayom on the death of the commissioner and said the government is in full solidarity with the people of Unity State in general and Mayom in particular.
“Your president and the entire government has send his condolences to the people of Mayom and of Unity State in general and they have promised to stand with the people of Unity state in the fight against terrorist because this is terrorism when you kill civilians in this manner,” he added.
Last week, Gen. Stephen Buay cautioned workers at oil companies to evacuate as he identified the oil fields as his main targets.
He also warned civilians from using military vehicles as means of mobility because such vehicles could anytime be ambushed by his forces.
