July 26, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) has continued to attack several SPLA-IO positions in the country’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state, days after a senior opposition commander was arrested and detained, opposition officials said.
The fighting escalated last week when a group of SPLA-Io soldiers traveling to a village in Western Bahr el Ghazal state came under ambush and then disarmed and detained along Brigadier General Gabriel Wek Bol who was leading the small force.
The opposition official is still being detained in Tonj by the SSPDF.
“Comrades, there is a continued attack by the SPLA on our position (SPLA IO) in Wau since yesterday July 24, 2020, and today July 25, 2020. Some of our soldiers are wounded and they continue to defend themselves against the aggression of SPLA and National security forces,” a senior SPLM-IO official said.
“This fighting is in the area of Jebel Tick on the road from Wau to Tonj. I am trying to get more data before I will come out with an official condemnation of the act,” he added.
