Nov 30, 2020(Nyamilepedia) – The Rome based South Sudan Opposition Movement Alliance(SSOMA) has seen yet another power wrangling fitting Gen. Thomas Cirilo Swaka and Dr. Lako Jada Kwajok just ahead of the Rome peace talks that are expected to resume on December 2, 2020.
According to documents extended to Nyamilepedia this morning by the spokesperson of the new group, LJ Marella, Dr. Lako Jada Kwajok resigned on October 23rd and declared his new armed opposition movement, the Democratic Resistance Movement (DRM) today, November 30, 2020.
“Today 30th November 2020, marks the birth of your revolutionary movement, the Democratic Resistance Movement (DRM). Our country has been set on a perilous course by none other than those who were regarded previously as liberators but have now turned into oppressors of their people,” Dr. Kwajok said.
Dr. Lako J. Kwajok, who declared himself as the Chairman and Commander in Chief of the DRM, accused the SPLM/A and its leaders of failing to develop the country and for encouraging malpractices such as corruption and nepotism.
“Furthermore, its reign brought no development nor meaningful services delivery to the people of South Sudan. Instead, the South Sudanese witnessed rampant corruption which is unprecedented by any measure,” he said.
Kwajok, who saw every unfolding, tried to join the SPLM/A-IO after December 2013 but in the process he believes he saw the leadership of the SPLM/A-IO succumbing to dictatorial regime and decided to opt out.
“The DRM members were at the forefront of different movements that emerged in the aftermath of the Juba massacre of the Nuer civilians committed by the regime of President Salva Kiir on the 15th of December 2013. However, along the way, some of the supposedly revolutionary movements succumbed and sold out to the regime they fought just a few years ago,” Read part of the DRM statement signed off by Dr. Kwajok.
According to Dr. Kwajok, who has been part of Rome talks, the R-ARCISS is full of flaws and therefore they rejected it.
“Under such circumstances, the true revolutionaries rejected surrendering to the SPLM party regime and joined forces by launching your all-embracing and inclusive revolutionary movement; the DRM,” Kwajok declared.
“The DRM shall not relent until the regime is removed from power, with the institution of federalism, and full accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity.” He pledged.
Dr. Kwajok appoints Lt. Gen. Khalid Ono Loki as his deputy and deputy chairman of its political bureau, and Maj Gen. Murtada Jalal Uldin Baballa as the chief of intelligence.
Dr. Kwajok also appointed Eng. Leeri Johnson Marella as the spokesperson and Maj Gen. Lokai Iko as the military governor of Eastern Equatoria State.
The new split will weaken the main SSOMA-Cirillo group which has been negotiating with the government as these members are withdrawn from Gen. Thomas Cirilo Group.
Cirilo has been having an upper hand against his rival, Gen. Paul Malong Awan, Cde. Pagan Amum, Oyai Deng Ajak and Cirilo Iteng as their group used to be four parties against Malong and Pagan parties.
