March 8th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) led by Josephine Lagu has threatened to opt out of the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) over what it calls an unfair distribution of national ministers.

The revitalized peace agreement signed in September 2018 provided for the division of the 35 ministers which are to be created under the deal.

The opposition consortium is entitled o three (3) ministers and one deputy minister under the deal.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, a member of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance said the SPLM-IG and SPLM-IO did the selection of ministers unfairly and that their action was a violation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“You know, they would have consulted us. What they did in selecting the key ministers for themselves and giving us what they want us to take,” the opposition official said from Juba on condition of anonymity.

“This action is unfair and the Alliance will never be a party to the revitalized TGoNU if this would continue as the case for the selection of ministers,” he added.

The government and the SPLM-IO have selected their ministries with the Machar-led movement taking the iconic ministry of defense and petroleum while the government took the the finance, foreign affairs and interior.

An opposition official however said on Saturday that differences emerged once again after the government demanded that the petroleum ministry return to them.
