June 25, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior member of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) has accused the secretary-general of the group and leader of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin of acting outside the alliance’s charter.
This comes a day after Akol submitted a letter to President Salva Kiir Mayardit asking for the acceptance of his group’s nominee, Dr. Mahjuob Turuk, for the governorship of Jonglei state which has been allocated to the alliance.
While the alliance’s leader Josephine Lagu expressed the group’s rejection of Jonglei state for oil-rich Upper Nile, Dr. Lam Akol and General Bapiny Manytuil, a senior member of the group, welcomed the decision by President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar.
The two men met at the statehouse J1 on Wednesday last week and decided to divide up the states according to their choice with Kiir taking six states including oil-rich Unity state and Machar taking three including Upper Nile state while giving SSOA the restive Jonglei state.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, Wazir Michael Liah, the spokesman of the Federal Democratic Party (FDP), a prominent member of the Alliance, and a senior member of SSOA said Dr. Lam was acting outside the Alliance’s charter.
“Dr. Lam is acting outside the Alliance’s charter. He has been acting alone since we returned to Juba in 2018 for the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement,” Michael said.
