October 31st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The chairperson of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) Josephine Lagu said on Wednesday that there is no impediments to the vice-president selection after a week passed since the organization announced that it will conduct a meeting for that purpose.

According to the revitalized peace agreement signed by SSOA, the government, FDs and SPLM-IO in September last year, the opposition umbrella is entitled to a vice-president position.

Last week, Lagu told Radio Tamazuj that the organization would convene a meeting to select a vice-president designate ahead of government formation in November.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Wednesday, Lagu who also leads the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) said the process was delayed because the SSOA leader and colleagues had to attend a meeting of the National Dialogue in Juba on Monday.

She denied reports that there were impediments to the process as some of the group’s leaders – such as Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin – are opposed to the formation of the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) in November.

No impediments,” Lagu said. “except that SSOA leaders were engaged in attending National Dialogue meeting over the last two days.”

She said the opposition umbrella “will hold the meeting and let the media know of the outcome.”
