December 6th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) faction led by Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka has said the decision by former SSOA chairman Gabriel Changson to reject the outcome of the SSOA election which elected Gen. Peter Gatdet as the new leader is null and void.
The Leadership Council of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) last week met in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and elected Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka by 62.5% against Changson who was only favored by 37.5% of the eight groups.
Later on, the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) faction led by Changson Lew issued a statement nullifying the outcome of the election which it said was not conducted as per the charter of the alliance.
However, in a statement issued on Wednesday evening, the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) led by Gen. Peter Gatdet said it has met and has since nullify the decision by Changson Lew to reject and suspend the outcome of the last week election.
“We, the undersigned declare that the said decision of this group to suspend the election or the Chairman of SSOA is null and void,”said a statement issued by groups making up the SSOA faction led by Gen. Peter Gatdet.
For his part, Dr. Lam Akol, a member of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) leadership council, told the Eye Radio on Wednesday that the election of new chairman was conducted according to the charter of the alliance.
“You know we are eight members in the leadership council of the alliance (SSOA). So five people have voted for him and three have voted for former interim chair,” he said.
Akol further reaffirmed that the new leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) which is a signatory to the South Sudan’s revitalized peace deal signed in Addis Ababa in September is Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka.
“The new chairman is General Peter Gatdet he was elected,” he confirmed.
