October 14th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by South Sudan’s former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon have urged the govemrnment of South Sudan to reopen mobile networks in opposition-held territories.

More areas in South Sudan have been without mobile communication since the start of the ongoing South Sudanese civil war in December 2013 following a flareup of violent between Presidential Guards in Juba leading to a masscare against civilians in the national capital igniting a civil war.

In an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia on Saturday, the SPLM-IO Deputy Chairperson of National Committee for Information and Public Relations Manawa Peter Gatkuoth Gual said the government, as a good gesture for peace should open networks in rebel-held territories.

“The other thing is that communictation should be opened if there is peace in the country. the mobile network in areas controled by the SPLM-IO should be operationalize. Companies like Zain, Gentle, MTN and others should be opened in part of Unity State and Lou Nuer Areas which currently controlled by the SPLM-IO as long as there is peace in the country,” he told the Nyamilepedia on Saturday.

Gatkuoth said there is no any reason citizens in some parts of the country should communicate while other in the other part of the country should not saying it will be a sign of commitment by the government to open the networks in these areas.

“There is no any reason citizens in some parts parts of the country can communictate while others in the country don not. This, if the government open the network, will be a sign that there is peace because now people in Lou Nuer areas do not communicate with those in other parts of Lou Nuer areas,” he said asking “how this be called an peace.?”

He said there is network in areas controled by government in Unity Sate but there is no the same thing in areas controlled by the SPLM-IO pointing out that the mobile network operating companies should be ordred to go and operate in every part of the country so that citizens there should be able to realize that there is peace.
