December 09, 2021 — The leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has announced to launch the party General Secretariat on Saturday, December 11, 2021.
This comes less than two weeks after the party convened its 4th National Liberation Council’s meeting in Juba on December 2nd, 2021 where they filled vacancies of the defected members in the National Liberation Council which is one of the highest decision making organs of the party.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia from capital Juba, the SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations Cde. Puok Both Baluang said, the main opposition party under the country’s first vice president will launch its General Secretariat tomorrow under the theme :Towards Democratic, United and Prosperous South Sudan.
“The SPLM-IO will launch its general secretariat on coming Sunday December 11th, 2021 here in Juba under the theme :Towards Democratic, United and Prosperous South Sudan”, Cde. Puok Both Baluang told Nyamilepedia from Juba this morning.
Baluang, who doubles as Acting Press Secretary in the office of the First Vice President said, the launch of General Secretariat will serve as transition of the SPLM-IO party from an armed opposition movement to a political party that will fight its objectives politically.
He stressed that, South Sudanese should renounce violence and start settling their problems through political approaches which he believes is the move towards democracy and sustainable South Sudan.
“This mark the transformation of the SPLM/A-IO from an armed movement to a political party and that generated from the belief of the SPLM/A-IO, meaning that all problems in South Sudan can be resolved only through political approaches and that’s the greatest step torwards democracy in our beloved country South Sudan”, Baluang added.
On December 2, 2021, Dr. Riek Machar, Leader of the SPLM/A-IO advised his members during the meeting of National Liberation Council to be active and committed to party activities.
