August 21, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLA-IO, is mediating between it and the SPLM-IO led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit over the Upper Nile state dispute.

The Machar-led movement in June nominated General Johnson Olony Thambo for the governorship of Upper Nile state which had been allocated to the main armed opposition group as part of a power-sharing agreement in the states.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, Dut Majokdit, an outspoken SPLM-IO member from Northern Bahr el Ghazal state said deputy chairperson of Sudanese Sovereign Council General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo was pushing for a deal between the two main signatories to the agreement.

“General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo is working very hard to make sure that we resolve the dispute over Olony. He is pushing for a deal between the SPLM-IO and the SPLM-IG,” Dut said.

“What we want to reiterate is that we will not change our candidate for Upper Nile state. We are the one to decide because the agreement has given us that power,” Dut added.
