October 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny won’t go to Juba until the region is decided on his final status, an opposition official allied to him said Monday.
Machar is currently under house confinement in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and is not allowed to move anywhere.
Last week, South Sudan’s head of National Pre-transitional Committee (NPTC) and Presidential Advisor on Security Tutkew Gatluak said Machar would visit Juba in mid October and that Kiir won’t form the government without him.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Monday, Puok Both Baluang, the SPLM-IO director of information and public relations said Machar won’t return to Juba until the region decide his final status.
“There is a regional initiative that Machar visit Juba to meet with President Kiir to discus the formation of the unity government,” Baluang said.
“We welcomed that initiative but Dr. Machar won’t travel to Juba until the region decide his final status,” he added.
