June 21st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) under the leadership of the country’s former First Vice -President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, has accused the South Sudan Army, SPLA-IG, of launching new offensives in the Equatoria region while two leaders from both sides are meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis of Ababa in an effort to end the war.
“As concerted efforts are ongoing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to acheive peace, to our dismay, the regime is preparing its anti-peace forces for major offensives against SPLA (IO) positions in and around Morobo County.Yesterday, the regime dispatched its reinforcement forces to Morobo and Kaya military barracks in preparation for the upcoming offensives against our positions,” the statement signed by the spokesman of the opposition Yei River State governor Wayi Godwill Edward.
The spokesman said the planned attacks are going in two directions.
“The full swing military operations are planned to be in two directions; one will be from Gulumbi aimed at infiltrating Kendila and Panyume and the other one will be from Dudulabe through Yondu to Panyume,” the statement said.
The statement further accused the government of working to derail the peace efforts currently under way under the auspices of the IGAD.
“This is a move designed to complement the irrelevant political position of the government of denying peace a chance through a negotiated settlement, the statement further said.
The statement further said the SPLM-IO reserves the right to selfdefense and said the government move is a violation to the Cessation of Hostility Agreement signed in December 2017 and called on the CTSAMM to investigate the regime’s plan to attack “our positions and hold the perpetrators to account.”
