December 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, has said that the formation of the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) depends on the implementation of the outstanding issues.
This come hours after a high-level week-long meeting between President Salva Kiir and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar in Juba ended without a breakthrough over pending pre-transitional tasks.
Early on Tuesday, Kiir, flanked by Machar and deputy chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, told reporters at his office in J1 that he and Machar agreed to form the unity government by February 15th regardless of the pending tasks.
In a statement this evening however, the Machar-led main armed opposition group said the formation of the long-awaited unity government depends on the implementation of the pending pre-transitional tasks.
“The formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) depends on the progress of the implementation of the outstanding critical issues in the context of the 100 days of the Pre-Transitional Period,” the statement signed by the SPLM-IO deputy spokesman Manawa Peter Gatkuoth partly reads.
The group further reaffirmed its “full commitment to the implementation of R-ARCSS in letter and spirit, as the sole way to attain peace in South Sudan.”
