September 20th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by the country’s former First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny said the return to Juba will be conducted as per the provisions of the R-ARCISS.
This followed an offer by President Salva Kiir’s government calling on opposition leaders, including Dr. Machar to visit Juba for two or three days to build confidence between theleaders.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the SPLM-IO Chairperson of National Committee for Information and Public Relations, Mabior Garang de’Mabior, said the return to Juba will be exercised as per the revitalized agreement.
“The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) would like to remind President Salva Kiir and his Minister of Information, that we are ending a civil war, not a domestic dispute; therefore, the return to Juba and every other issue shall be addressed according to the provisions of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCISS),” Mabior said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.
The SPLM-IO said it calls on the public to educate itself with the provisions of the revitalized agreement to to counter propaganda from the South Sudan government.
“The R-ARCISS shall serve as the agenda for peace during the Transitional Period, and the SPLM/SPLA (IO) calls on members to educate themselves and the public at large about the provisions of the R-ARCISS, in order to avoid the sorts of malicious propaganda by the known hardliners of the regime, who are the real beneficiaries of war in our country and whose intent is to derail the peace process,” Mabior said.
South Sudan government and opposition groups signed the long-awaited revitalized agreement in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the ongoing civil war.
