March 23, 2022 — Members of the Political Bureau of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM-IO) under the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny condemned in strongest terms possible what they termed as “systematic” attacks on their forces by SPLM-IG.
This comes after the SPLA-IO positions were attacked in both Upper Nile and Unity State by forces believed to be South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF).
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the SPLM-IO members of political bureau say during the meeting they that are deeply concerned by the attacks perpetuated against their forces in their respective areas.
The Political Bureau met yesterday, March 22, purposely to discuss whether or not their members should continue to participate in mechanisms meetings.

The SPLM/SPLA-IO Political Bureau (PB) met on Tuesday 22nd March 2022 to discuss reports from SPLM/SPLA-(IO) security mechanisms components namely JDB, JTSC, JMCC, SDSR Board, CTSAMM, SSM as well as the National Transitional Committee (NTC) and Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC). “, the statement reads.
According to the statement, the SPLM-IO Political Bureau evaluated and noted the dysfunctionality of these Mechanisms in the implementation of the Agreement (R-ARCSS) and opted to boycott them.

Deeply concerned by the ongoing attacks on SPLM/SPLA-IO cantonment and Training Centers in Kaljak and Mir-Mir in Unity State and in Jekou in Upper Nile State, the PB approved the suspension of participation of SPLA/SPLM-IO in the Security Mechanism’s meetings pending the resolution of the issues raised, at the political level “, the statement added.
“.. In conclusion, the Political Bureau condemns in strongest terms possible the systematic attacks of the SPLM/SPLA-(IO) forces and reiterates its continuous commitment to full implementation of the R-ARCSS “, the statement further elaborated.
In one of the latest attacks in Jokou of Upper Nile state, the SPLM/A-IO lost two senior generals and the strategic barracks; however, they claim to have recaptured Jekou today.
