The launching kicked off at 10:00am on Saturday under the theme ” Towards Democratic, United and Prosperous South Sudan”
The event was officiated by the First Vice President and Chairman of the SPLM (IO), Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
The main armed opposition, SPLM/A-IO, was formed in 2014, a few month following outbreak of violence in the capital Juba when elements of the country’s army, then called SPLA, went from neighborhoods to neighborhoods in Juba to massacre civilians accused of ethnic or political affiliation to Machar who was accused of a coup attempt.
Since 2014, the SPLM/A-IO has seen numerous breakdown as several senior politicians and military generals defected; however, the party has tried to live on.
