October 8, 2021—The leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM-IO) in Cairo, Egypt has today announced that they have resolved their internal conflicts and have now come together as comrades with one political voice and vision.
The group, which is loyal to the First Vice President, has been in an intense wrangle since 2019 when some of their senior members that include the country’s Coordinator and the Chapter’s Chairperson defected from Machar and announced their allegiance to Kiir’s side.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this evening, the SPLM-IO Chapter spokesman, Cde. Gattiek Wichar said the leadership of the SPLM-IO in Egypt has resolved its internal disputes and the holdout group has been re-integrated into the leadership and given all their demands to demonstrate good will gesture and spirit of compromises to bolster peace and unity among the former comrades.
” We have today resolved our long-time stand-off and the opposing side who had been working parallel to the SPLM-IO leadership in Egypt has been given their all demands and we did that because we don’t want more division in IO anymore because our division is always being exploited by our political enemies to undermine our progress and as such we have reached a common understanding among ourselves “, Cde. Wichar told Nyamilepedia from Egyptian Capital, Cairo.
Gattiek further explained that their grievances emerged when the SPLM-IO former representative to Cairo, Cde. Gatkuoth Biel, who recently joined Kitgwang Faction, unilaterally decided to appointed another chapter chairman instead of installing the Chapter’s Deputy Chairman to replace the Chairman that defected.
“so that move was criticized and condemned by the executive board of the defected Chairperson of Chapter and from there the division emerged where two sides appointed separated coordinators and Chapter leaders.” Gattiek explained.
The peace initiative that brought two conflicting sides together was brokered by SPLM-IO senior member Cde. David Jany Reath who is now working on behalf of the SPLM-IO representative in Egypt after the defection of Cde. Gatkuoth Biel Nyang to Kitgwang Declaration.
