October 30th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s SPLM-IO governor of Sobat state, Maj. Gen. James Banak Riang has appointed commissioners for the opposition Sobat state after an initial dismissal of then incumbents.
Sobat state is one of the 21 states created by SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon in 2014 in which he decided to break the country based on colonial districts of British administration in Southern Sudan.
In a gubernatorial degree issued on October 26th, the government appointed seven country commissioners as per his powers granted to him by the SPLM-IO constitution of 2015.
“In accordance with powers conferred upon me by Pagak one (1) Conference dated 14th December 2014 and the Decree of the Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLM/A -IO, for the appointment of Sobat State Governor dated 14th May 2018. I Maj. General James Banak Riang Lual do hereby appoint Sobat State Counties Commissioners with effect from 27th October 2018,” the governor said in the degree extended to the Nyamilepedia.
The newly appointed county commissioners are: Keach Nguoth Tiem for Ulang County, Bhan Char Wechtuor for Nasir County, John Lewa Tuor for Kewar County, Gatwech Yak Geng for Doma County, Chuol Ngingngiey Giw for Baliet County, Isaac Thonker Lual Top for Abwong County and Abiel Angau Padiet for Akoka County.
In a related development, the opposition governor appointed Gatluak Kual Luak as the new chairman of Peace and Reconciliation Commission tasked to take the reconciliatory role between the people of the state.
The governor also appointed states secretaries.
