SPLM-IO following up on arrested officer, warns members of movements

National Security Service arrests SPLA-IO officer in Juba

November 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group SPLM-IO has said it is following up on its officer arrested by National Security Service (NSS) warning members of movements inside Juba.

On Thursday, Lt. Col. Ngarngar Batuh was arrested by the country’s NSS at a shop in Central Juba. The reasons behind his surprise arrest remain unclear even to his family.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Saturday, Col. Lam Paul Gabriel, the deputy spokesman of SPLA-IO, said the group was following up to establish why he was arrested saying they were told that the NSS was planning to transfer him to the Blue House which serve as the security’s headquarters in Jebel.

“We are following up the issue to determine why he was arrested then we will know the details,” Lam said.

“He is [detained] by the river side prison but I heard they were to transfer him to Jebel Blue house,” he said adding that Ngarngar was still being detained at a national security facility near the river Nile as he spoke.

Movements should be minimized

Col. Lam further warned members of the main armed opposition groups saying them that “movements in towns should be minimized.”

“My advice is, we are only implementing the security arrangements, and it does not mean there is peace. Our people should not think Juba or any government-controlled area is safe for them now.”
