June 12th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, is engaging Sudanese authorities over violence against South Sudanese nationals, a top opposition diplomat allied to Machar says.

On Monday, three South Sudanese nationals were reportedly killed by armed men in Khartoum and seven others were wounded. Sources told the Nyamilepedia yesterday that South Sudanese had to be escorted to a UN-provided camp outside the capital.

In a brief statement to the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday, SPLM-IO Chairperson of National Committee for External Relations, Amb. Stephen Par Kuol, confirmed that violence has been perpetuated against South Sudanese nationals but said it was subsiding.

“Yes, it is true. Our people are undergoing a lot of difficulties but the crisis is subsiding,” Par said.

He said the main armed opposition leadership is engaging the Sudanese authorities on how to avoid future attacks against the South Sudanese nationals in the country saying the Sudanese authorities have agreed to protect them.

“However, the SPLM(IO) Leadership is engaging the Sudanese Authorities on that. They promised to protect our people,” he said.

He further warned and advised South Sudanese there to abide by Sudanese rules and regulations to avoid such attacks in the future.

“We are also advising our people to abide by the public security laws of Sudan and play it safe,” he said.
